![]() Finally, I set the max physical ram to 768MB and got rid of the vcache limit and now it seems to work fine. ![]() Then I set the max ram to 512MB and vcache limit to 256MB and then Windows went black right after the desktop appeared. I set the max memory and vcache to 256MB and that was worse. Then I did the other thing that Microsoft recommended, setting the Vcache max to 512MB. This also happened if I tried to view a subdirectory in Explorer. But when I tried to open a file in Excel or Word, or when I clicked on a link in IE, the screen went black and nothing further happened. I could also open Excel, Word and Internet Explorer (among other programs). I've read that Windows 98 does not work properly with RAM >512MB so I did what was recommended based on researching the web and looking at Microsoft's site: I set the maximum physical RAM at 512MB.
